CHECKPOINTS ON THE CLOSED COURSE
There are three checkpoints on course that are only accessible to official checkpoint teams: they are not accessible to general spectators or supporters. You must register as a volunteer and travel in a convoy with our Checkpoint Managers to reach them. It’s worth the effort though…we can guarantee a few amazing hours of cycling action and magnificent viewing. It’s an incredible day out!
The Crucible – active from 8:35am to 10:35am
The Crucible Checkpoint is at one of the four highest points on course, at the 39km mark for FIVE and SEVEN riders. This checkpoint is active from 8:35am to 10:35am. The view from this checkpoint is absolutely breathtaking. You can see riders climbing and descending for miles, not only through The Crucible Sector, but also across the valley and up into The Labyrinth Sector.
Ellis Creek – active from 9:50am to 1:30pm
The Ellis Creek Checkpoint is at the 77.4km mark for SEVEN riders. This is another of our highest points, with amazing views of the Ellis Creek Climb, and across the valley to The Crucible. You can watch riders climbing on both sides of the valley for almost four hours!
Glacier Valley – active from 8:05am to 3pm
This is the final high checkpoint on course…and it’s a busy one! It’s at the 23.75km mark for THREE riders, 62.4km for FIVE riders, and 96.8km SEVEN riders. For seven hours, the riders of THREE, FIVE and SEVEN will ride through this checkpoint from different directions. The Hawaiian Ride for Youth team will be managing this checkpoint, and by registering as a volunteer on crew, you can join them.
